At the first NHIN Solutions presentation given by NextGate and Sun Microsystems, attendees witnessed real-world examples of extending the Java CAPS middleware suite to accommodate new and upcoming healthcare requirements. Experts from both organizations discussed and demonstrated ways of deploying Java CAPS to:

·        Connect to the Nationwide Healthcare Information Network (NHIN)

·        Construct and optimize an Enterprise Master Patient Index

·        Develop a repeatable HL7 integration Framework

·        Provide enhanced alerting and monitoring of integration environments

“We showed organizations how they can maximize their IT investment, increase software efficiency, and build solutions for expanded healthcare networking, including government initiatives” said NextGate CEO Andy Aroditis.

Additionally, Hartford Hospital gave an exciting demonstration of their Health Information Exchange which uses the open source OpenESB integration engine as its core. Connecting to their live system, Mr. John DeStefano, Manager of Integration Systems, showed how data are seamlessly routed between organizations according to different security and governance policies.

Finally, Robert Sileo, Integration Manager for Eclipsys/Northshore Long Island Jewish, proudly displayed the iPod he won in the raffle.
