The NextGate MatchMetrix EMPI
The NextGate MatchMetrix EMPI is designed to manage and leverage the overlapping and redundant person data within disparate systems. It builds a master index of entities such as patients, citizens, subscribers, and account holders that are not uniquely identified across all enterprise systems.

The EMPI creates a Universal ID and correlates data from disparate sources enabling a single view of information.
The MatchMetrix EMPI is built on the MatchMetrix MDM Platform and is a set of individual components that work together to accommodate various indexing requirements. This flexible approach means that you only implement the components you need, and you do not have to carry the financial and management burden of unnecessary software.
The MatchMetrix EMPI can be deployed as a standalone EMPI for a Hospital or Radiology Group, or as part of a broader Health Information Exchange (HIE) or Accountable Care Organization (ACO) solution alongside NextGate's other MatchMetrix registry products.
The MatchMetrix EMPI includes the following components (download datasheet):
The MatchMetrix EMPI Server uses intelligent matching algorithms to recognize related person information spread across different applications with varying local identifiers, and links them together under an Enterprise ID in a comprehensive master index. The MatchMetrix EMPI Server is pre-configured with industry specific logic to deliver data accuracy, speed, convenience, security and real world usability.
| Probabilistic matching algorithm | Population specific weight assignments |
| User-defined match thresholds | LDAP and Active Directory interface |
| Rapid data load process | Small software footprint |
| Oracle, SQL Server and MySQL database options | PIX/PDQ or Screen Scraping for integration to legacy systems |
The EMPI Data Quality Manager is a simple to use browser-based interface for the management of information in an EMPI database. Using the Data Quality Manager, a user may conduct Search, Merge, Unmerge, Edit and numerous other operations. This tool is compatible with the MatchMetrix EMPI Server as well as the Sun/SeeBeyond eIndex and eView products.
The Search pane accepts multiple search methods and can accommodate many common errors such as when a user accidentally transposes First and Last name. All relevant information is displayed on a single page, reducing the number of mouse clicks and screen changes required to manage the data. Queries and views are restricted according to the User Profile established in the security policy module.
| GUI designed for EMPI efficiency | Convenient, simple navigation |
| Single page view of all relevant information | Facility based security via LDAP and Active Directory |
| Extensive audit trails | Compatible with eIndex and eView |
EMPI Reporter is a pre-configured report writer that generates practical reports that are helpful in the daily use and management of an index. Unlike other report writers, the EMPI Reporter can be segmented by facility making it easy to identify duplicates within a particular system.
EMPI Reporter is linked to the user’s security profile, allowing only authorized personnel to generate the selected report. Reports can be scheduled to run on a regular basis, or created ad hoc. The resulting PDF files can be emailed or shared as policy dictates.
| More than 20 preconfigured reports | Greatly improves productivity |
| Dependent on a user’s security profile | Reports can be scheduled and emailed |
| Reports generated at an enterprise, facility, system, or user level | Compatible with eIndex and eView |
The EMPI includes support for the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) Patient Identity Cross-Reference Manager (PIX) and Patient Demographics Query Manager (PDQ) profiles. The objective of PIX and PDQ is to allow healthcare providers, and other persons involved in the delivery of care, to locate a patient's Electronic Health Record information across multiple systems through a standardized Application Programmer Interface (API).
With PIX/PDQ support, the EMPI enables a series of subsequent transactions that are crucial for exchange of patient information and resolving patient demographic queries such as:
| Querying for location of patient records from a registry |
| Retrieving documents from a repository using a patient id |
| Querying for location of patient records from a cross-community gateway |
| Retrieving documents for a patient from a cross-community gateway |
